Lindley Studios welcomes translation work from French and German into English. In-depth knowledge of music terminology and concepts means we can convey the original ideas with equivalence and precision in the target language. Previous clients include Linguaphone, Major Key Largo and Care Services (Cairo).
We translated German display-panels for visitors to the KomponistenQuartier in Hamburg. These discuss the music of CPE Bach (1714-1788) in relation to the city and history of Hamburg and describe the prevailing galant style, the concept of Empfindsamkeit, the new approach to improvising and how contemporaries reacted to the radical nature of his free Fantasias for keyboard. This work was carried out in consultation with Dr. Dietmar Geyer of Stuttgart University.
Other writing projects have included David M. Hoyle's programme notes for a number of Ronald Corp's compositions and music by Gustav Holst and Edmund Rubbra, while his reviews of composers such as Philip Glass, Prokofiev, Arvo Pärt and Bruno Maderna have appeared in the magazines Opera Now and Performance.
